Panel Discussion - The enabling role of Government in developing the blockchain industry in India, supported by the GBA

The distinction between blockchain and cryptocurrency is often muddled in India, including in policy circles. Industry leaders need to work with government to better develop an understanding of the potential of blockchain to transform data management and improve outcomes, across the country. How can the government support adoption and growth of this industry? Where can private players work with government to help realise some of this upside? This session will provide an expert oversight into how policies, regulations and support for the industry could develop. This session is supported by the GBA.

Propelling digital identity forward into Self-Sovereign Identity, supported by EarthID

One of the biggest questions out there is who owns our data. Is it the big enterprises, the government, or is owned by us, as individuals. With ownership, questions around data security, control and monetisation also surface. The cost of identity assurance processes runs into billions of dollars just in India. This session is about different aspects of Self Sovereign Identity, a watershed that could reshape the future of the decentralized P2P economy, like London-based tech firm Earth.Id.

Panel Discussion - Blockchain for India: The local context

The National Payments Corporation of India is considering using blockchain to boost digital transactions, which means opportunity across its 56 member banks. Some state governments have increasingly shown interest in learning more about the technology. The government is already deep-diving into blockchain for land registry, judicial records, e-stamping, transportation, DBT ( Direct Benefit Transfer) and much more. What other sectors offer the greatest opportunity for blockchain in India? This session sets the context for the rest of the day, when we have deep dive sessions into different industries.

Panel Discussion - Will India emerge as the next fintech blockchain hub of the world?

Private banks such as ICICI has enlisted more than 250 corporates to undertake domestic and international trade finance transactions using the bank’s blockchain platform. The bank boasts a successful completion of blockchain-based cross-border transaction for trade finance with Emirates NBD in 2016. But ICICI isn’t the only bank in the region pushing ahead with blockchain. Indian banks such as Yes Bank, Axis are progressing ahead in blockchain innovations. For example, Axis bank announced to use Ripple’s network for cross-border transactions. Where do the major fintech opportunities lie? What is coming next in fintech that we’ve not conceptualised yet in India?

Panel Discussion - Can blockchain lead to a healthier India?

Our health information is distributed in various silos. Blockchain could help us all become the owners of all our own health information to be able to choose whom we give further access. This would allow a hospital access to our data only when we want them to. This could be used to help develop new medicines without putting privacy at risk and allow individuals to monetise their own data better. Could this lead to better outcomes for consumers? Join us to explore these questions in detail.
